Get involved in moving Columbia forward with Moe 4 Mayor!
At a young age , I left my parents and family behind, moving to Columbia SC looking for a better life and to be with my uncle, Andy Shlon. I graduated from Midlands Tech, then received my BS in HRTA at USC and in 2000, I received my master’s degree at USC. I've been a self-made businessman for more than 30 years, investing in my community beginning with my St. Andrews bakery, opened at age 24, to fine dining at Moe's Grapevine to my current lunch spot and catering business "Badd Boys" in Columbia, SC. I was a volunteer fireman for 8 years, taught for several years at USC, supported local charities, and helped organize the Rosewood Crawfish Festival during 2010 and 2011. In 2010, I also served on the city's Hospitality Tax Committee.
I have spent the past two years focused on family and establishing my current business despite opening during the pandemic. Believing that each of us shares in building a thriving community, I have spent almost a decade in serving the people of Columbia as an elected city council member. I believe that my leadership experience can help Columbia thrive and curb the wasteful spending practices of the past several years. We need transparency and accountability in the city's use of taxpayer funds. Our crumbling infrastructure needs to be addressed immediately, and our neighborhoods need a closer relationship with our public safety officers. Small business owners should be valued as the foundation of our communities and shouldn't have to deal with arbitrary business license fees and red tape. We need to stop giving away tax credits to developers and focus on attracting businesses that will employ and keep our young talent pool in Columbia. When elected, I plan to make these core objectives my focus in leading this great city into a new and thriving era.
